09-09-2023 – The original EmuLinker server list from the early EmuLinker days has been fully restored!

On September 9th, 2023, the original EmuLinker.org server list from the early days of EmuLinker/anti3D was fully restored! This is good news in these dark times when the kaillera.com server list is not functioning correctly and the alternative lists are split in half. The original EmuLinker Server List has been fully restored and successfully merged with the current one at EmuLinker.org. Since backward compatibility has been restored, a dozen of servers using old EL versions labeled as “EmuLinker” are now showing again on the list! Some of them are currently the most active US servers.

Kaillera and EmuLinker for Emulator Games Netplay

Kaillera is a client/server system that enables net-play for game system emulators. It was created by Christophe Thibault in 2001 and released as a free software. Kaillera does not provide the emulator itself, or the ROM files to emulate. It simply plugs into any emulator and maps “player 2” input to another user via UDP network communication.

However, Kaillera had some limitations and problems, such as lack of security, stability, and features. That’s why some developers decided to create alternative versions of Kaillera clients and servers, such as Open Kaillera, Supraclient, and EmuLinker.

EmuLinker is a Kaillera network server that was created by Moosehead in 2003. It is a complete rewrite of the original Kaillera server for the purpose of preventing exploitable bugs and adding features. Some of the features that EmuLinker offers are:

• Server administration and moderation
• Game chat and private messaging
• Game recording and playback
• Game statistics and rankings
• Game filtering and sorting
• Customizable server settings and messages
• Anti-cheat and anti-flood protection
• Desync detection and prevention

EmuLinker has been updated and improved over the years by various contributors, such as SupraFast, nue, killercivilian, Jgunishka, and others. The latest server version compatible with EmuLinker.org’s server list is EmuLinkerSF v0.92.9, which was released on August 22, 2021.
